Self-Guided Tour of NYC Indigenous Presence

By Anjelica Gallegos, M.Arch.1 2021

ISAPD presents an Urban Archive tour featuring select Indigenous place names in New York, making visible the ongoing connection between historical territories and Indigenous place making. ISAPD guides viewers through a series of built and unbuilt projects involving Indigenous communities, including the unbuilt early 20th-century American Indian Memorial at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, NY. ISAPD members' studio projects propose a new approach to Fort Wadsworth as a national park, while another project in New York City's Inwood neighborhood incorporates themes of Indigeneity, ecology, technology, and urban public interaction.
