Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the Center for Architecture and its educators have been able to successfully deliver the signature K-12 programs. Following the outbreak, our education team quickly adapted to this “new normal,” revamping design projects so they could be easily completed at home and offering programs to students virtually.
Keeping these learning opportunities accessible to all children is essential to our mission. Despite the challenges of the past year, we were able to serve 3,500 students through virtual programming and successfully reopened the Center for Architecture in June 2021 to host summer programs in person. We provided over $27,000 in financial aid to 82 students, offered virtual Student Day classroom workshops free of charge to low-income Title One schools, and developed new resource guides for teachers, all while expanding our online Architecture at Home series. All of this was made possible with your contributions to the Annual Education Fund.
Through our youth programming, we hope to enrich our children’s learning experiences and inspire the next generation of design leaders. Hands-on programs focused on topics such as bridge design, green architecture, and skyscrapers allow students to develop critical design skills while learning important art, engineering, math, and science concepts.
In 2022, we anticipate working with 160 classrooms and over 550 students through a combination of virtual and in-person school programs that include curated materials kits sent to students to enable 3D design work to remain at the core of our programming.
As 2021 comes to a close, please consider including the Center for Architecture’s Annual Education Fund in your year-end giving. Your donations help our team develop new curricula across our programs, while providing necessary funding for student scholarships and to building partnerships with even more Title I schools.
The Center for Architecture is also committed to diversifying the field of architecture. Much of the funds we raise go to empowering underserved communities across New York City. Your 100% tax-deductible contribution will help us fund scholarships to reach those families.
