The Center for Architecture welcomed over 150 architects, design professionals, and members of the public back to its space on March 7, 2024, for the 12th edition of Guess-A-Sketch. The architecture-themed sketching tournament beat its goal and raised $81k to support the Center for Architecture’s mission of providing design education programs for children, families, and adults.
Former AIA New York and Center for Architecture Executive Director Benjamin Prosky, Assoc. AIA, now President of the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust, served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies while four architects sketched iconic buildings from around the world on stage. Eight teams, including long-time past champions Robert A.M. Stern Architects, guessed live, and audience members were invited to text their guesses to win a range of prizes provided by our sponsors.
The 2024 Honoree Sketchers were:
- Mark L. Gardner, AIA, NOMA, Principal, Jaklitsch/Gardner Architects
- Jerome W. Haferd, NOMA, Principal, Jerome Haferd Studio, Co-founder, BRANDT : HAFERD
- Jing Liu, AIA, Co-founder, Principal, So-IL
- Thomas Phifer, FAIA, Founder, Thomas Phifer and Partners
Eight teams, who sponsored the event by competing, battled it out to receive the famed Guess-A-Sketch Pencil Trophy: City College of New York Spitzer School of Architecture, DLR Group, Gensler, Lutron, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, TYLin | Silman Structural Solutions, STUDIOS Architecture, and Turner. Marking a historic upset during the tournament’s second round, team RAMSA was ousted from their six-year winning streak by 2024’s champion team Silman, with the City College of New York Spitzer School of Architecture coming in as runner-up. Congratulations to Silman on their win, and to RAMSA for maintaining such an unrivaled long era as champions. We can’t wait to see what happens next year!
The funds raised through Guess-A-Sketch are critical to keeping the Center for Architecture’s programs affordable and accessible to all New Yorkers. Congratulations to all the participating teams and thank you to all our attendees for supporting K-12 education!
