Archtober 2018 is coming! The Center for Architecture and over 60 partner organizations will be bringing you a jam-packed month of architecture and design activities. From weekend walking tours to lectures and symposia, children’s programs, and exhibitions, Archtober has something for everyone!

During the month of October, a host of events will take place throughout the city’s five boroughs. This year, Archtober’s popular Building of the Day series will highlight historic icons like the Alice Austen House in Staten Island and the Marcel Breuer Buildings at Bronx Community College, as well new sites such as R & Company and the African Burial Ground National Monument. Blockbuster tours including TWA Hotel and Dock 72 have already sold out!

Archtober will bring back the popular Workplace Wednesdays series for its second year, which will invite the public into the offices of a different architecture firm each Wednesday during the month. Firms include WEISS/MANFREDI, SITU, Todd Williams Billie Tsien Architects | Planners, and Steven Holl Architects.

New this year, Archtober will offer a family-friendly Building of the Day Tour of Hayes Theater for students in grades 5-8, accompanied by an adult, on October 15. On October 21, the first-ever Family Build and Wear Workshop will show families how to to “read” buildings for clues about their design and function, then construct their own wearable building using giant paper bags as the base for their design.

On October 24, industry experts will try to stump the audience with questions about architecture, design, and NYC’s built environment at the second annual Archtober Trivia Night, this year hosted at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe! We’ll end the month with a bang at Pumpkitecture, the architectural pumpkin carving competition on October 26, when 20 firms will go gourd to gourd to compete to win the prized Pritzkerpumpkin.

Start planning now! Buildings of the Day are open for registration but selling out fast! Visit the Archtober website for a full line-up of events.
