On Form

The most frequent question asked after “What is Hip-Hop Architecture?” is “What does Hip-Hop Architecture look like?” As evidenced by the variety of styles and aesthetics, the image of Hip-Hop Architecture is not singular. In fact, it resists any singularly defined set of formal or aesthetic rules. Formal expression, however, is an essential characteristic of both hip-hop culture and architectural discourse and must be addressed in some way for any comprehensive statement on this design movement to be complete.
