To celebrate Archtober, NYC’s architecture and design month featuring over 100 collaborating partners across the five boroughs, the AIANY Women in Architecture Committee (WIA) is excited to bring back it’s signature Morning Leadership Talk series! Please join us to hear from keynote speaker Katie Swenson, Senior Principal of MASS Design Group, recipient of the 2022 AIA Architecture Firm Award, as she shares her path to architecture, her passion as a Community Architect advocating for environmental and social equity, and her mission in designing for love.

About the Speakers:
A nationally recognized design leader, researcher, writer, and educator, Katie Swenson co-leads the Advocacy team at MASS DESIGN Group and explores how critical design practice can and should promote economic and social equity, environmental sustainability, and healthy communities. Katie authored Design with Love: At Home in America, In Bohemia: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Kindness, and co-authored Growing Urban Habitats: Seeking a Housing Development Model. Katie teaches at the Parsons School of Design at The New School and lectures extensively on sustainable community development and affordable housing. In 2019, Katie was awarded a Loeb Fellowship at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the AIA Award for Excellence in Public Architecture in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia.
