Wednesday, October 11, 2023 is National Coming Out Day! This is a day of pride, visibility, and self-actualization for many. But not for all. Cultural acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community, in its full breadth and inclusiveness, has both never been fuller and is under constant new threats. On this day we want to look at what home, housing, and community mean within the context of LGBTQIA+ identities, particularly around youth and seniors with economic challenges, often our most vulnerable LGBTQIA+ populations. We’ll explore what’s being done within affordable and supportive housing in New York to create new models of affirming homes and communities that can positively transform the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth, seniors, and all individuals.
