Over Columbus Day Weekend, 10.12–13.13, the Center for Architecture Foundation welcomed more than 300 families to the Center for the sixth annual OHNY Weekend Family Festival, held in conjunction with openhousenewyork weekend, now in its 11th year. The fun, free, drop-in event was sponsored by the Foundation and openhousenewyork, along with our program partners, the Museum at Eldridge Street, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Landmark West!, Noble Maritime Museum, and Friends of the Upper East Side Historic District.

Families enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities – from creating a rowhouse collage to decorating skyscraper-inspired masks – and even architectural window rubbings. In addition to these take-home projects, more than 120 “Architectural Lanterns” were created by families and showcased as centerpieces at this year’s Heritage Ball at Chelsea Piers. Thanks to our co-sponsor openhousenewyork and to Jessica Mak and Elis Shin for their coordination, as well as our program partners – and a special shout-out to the amazing volunteers who helped make the weekend an overwhelming success.

Join the Center for Architecture Foundation as we journey to five Asian cities, exploring the current exhibition, “Practical Utopias” at our next FamilyDay@theCenter: Make a Better City on Saturday, 11.23.13. “Practical Global Urbanism in Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo” is on view through 01.18.14. Family Day Programs are designed for children ages 5 and up, accompanied by an adult.  Programs take place at the Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, between Bleecker and West 3rd Streets in Greenwich Village, unless otherwise noted.

Sarah Cloonan is Program and Marketing Manager at the Center for Architecture Foundation.
