Cocktails & Conversation is a series of dialogues about design that brings an architect together with a critic, journalist, curator, or architectural historian to discuss current architecture and urban design issues. For this program, the three founding principals of LTL Architects—Paul Lewis, FAIA, Marc Tsurumaki, AIA, and David J. Lewis, AIA—will discuss the philosophies behind their books Manual of Section (2016) and Manual of Biogenic House Sections (2022), exploring the tectonic and spatial opportunities of bio and geogenic systems. They will be joined in conversation with Rosalie Genevro, former Executive Director of the Architectural League of New York, over a custom-crafted cocktail to be enjoyed by all attendees.
Founded in 1997, LTL Architects pursues architecture at the intersection of spatial invention, material innovation, and collective experience. Over the past decade, the firm has refocused its practice on the role of embodied carbon and the architectural potentials of plant and earth-based materials and reuse. Current work includes a prototype dwelling based on the use of compressed straw, the reuse of Hangers 3&4 at Floyd Bennet Field, and the Brownsville Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. LTL Architects were honored as the AIA New York State Firm of the Year in 2019.
