FAR ROC (For a Resilient Rockaway) is a two-phase design competition seeking innovative proposals to establish a new standard in storm-resiliency, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic development for low-lying coastal communities.
The competition specifically seeks the design and development of a comprehensive new master plan for Arverne East, a vacant 80+ acre Urban Renewal site on the Rockaway Peninsula in New York City.
The exhibition highlights White Arkitekter’s winning proposal, Small Means and Great Ends, and runner-up Ennead Architect’s proposal F.R.E.D. (Fostering Resilient Ecological Development), in addition to proposals by Toronto-based Lateral Office and London-based Seeding Office.
