The biannual rhythm of the AJAP results in a systematic regeneration of the French scene. This support action led by the Ministry of Culture and Communication for young creation in the field of architecture and landscape design is recognized throughout Europe.

It has even given the idea to others during the traveling exhibition (to Nantes and Athens for the 2009-2010 session) of dialoguing with these promising young architects and landscape designers by organizing complementary exhibitions, to give them their cue through the local scene. It is an interesting process.

In the dynamic framework imagined by Freaks (prizewinners of the preceding session), there are 17 teams (14 teams of architects and three of landscape designers) that are renewing this very precious breeding ground for public and private clients. Light years from any parochialism, illustrating the diversity of professional practice in the two disciplines, the new prizewinners show, in these times of crisis, the excellent level and the strong proposals that this new group in direct contact with the metropolitan question represents.

Architecture and territories are more than ever the keywords in a world where pragmatism is indispensable. Lionel Blaisse, the exhibition’s curator, has accordingly sketched the profile of these young teams, often revealing an international academic and/or professional career path, while Gaston Bergeret made them undergo the photographic exercise of the portrait, a feature of the Ifa.

These 17 new prizewinners have joined the “gallery of the Albums.” Their whose evolution can therefore be followed through the large-scale projects carried out in metropolises in motion.

–Francis Rambert, Director of the Institut Français d’Architecture – Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine

AJAP | Les Albums des Jeunes Architectes et des Paysagistes is organized by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Institut Français and the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine.
