How do you actually take the temperature of New York City? The AIANY Design for Risk and Reconstruction Committee invites Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig for its 4th Anniversary Annual Scorecard Program.

Dr. Rosenzweig co-chairs the NYC Panel on Climate Change (NPCC), an independent group of climate change and impact scientists and experts in related legal, insurance, and risk management matters. Initially convened by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NPCC specifically advises the NYC Mayor. NPCC recently released a 2015 report called Building the Knowledge Base for Climate Resiliency. The worrisome document predicts that New York will be hotter, wetter, and awash. It also provides climate projections through 2100 for the first time. Rosenzweig is also co-author of Climate Change and Cities: First Assessment Report by the Urban Climate Change Research Network (ARC3).

“Climate change research isn’t just something for the future; it’s affecting how key policy decisions are being made now,” Dr. Rosenzweig says. She will give her insider’s view of the research and its practical application to the region’s opportunities and risks, and talk about her current work and interests.
