New York, NY, April 27, 2016 – The Center for Architecture is proud to present the return of Guess-A-Sketch, an architecture-themed, Pictionary-style tournament, held on May 13 at 6:00 PM and the Center for Architecture. Charles Renfro, AIA, will host the lively evening as Master of Ceremonies while design industry stars Jonathan J. Marvel, FAIA, Marvel Architects; Ronnette Riley, FAIA, Ronnette Riley Architect; Paula Scher, Pentagram; and Dan Wood, FAIA, WORK Architecture Company, sketch for competing teams.
The event will benefit the Center for Architecture’s architecture and design education programs for children, families, and adults, raising funds for the non-profit’s in-school collaborations and scholarships for summer, vacation, and after-school youth programs.
Center for Architecture Board President Tom Krizmanic, AIA, says, “The Center for Architecture works with over 90 public school classrooms annually in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens through our Learning By Design:NY program. In addition, we offer a wide range of school, youth and family programs at the Center for Architecture. In all, we serve more than 6,000 students, teachers, and adults throughout the year, helping them to understand how the built environment and design affect their daily lives.” Center for Architecture Director of Education Catherine Teegarden adds, “The funds raised through Guess‐A‐Sketch are critical to keeping our programs affordable and accessible.”
Teams competing include Cerami & Associates, Ennead Architects, Gilsanz Murray Steficek, Silman, and Studios Architecture, and more. Anyone can attend to watch the action unfold and join the competition by tweeting answers from the audience to win prizes.

About Guess-A-Sketch Master of Ceremonies and Honoree Sketchers
Charles Renfro, AIA, is a partner at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, an interdisciplinary design studio that integrates architecture, the performing arts, and the visual arts. Renfro has led design for the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Stanford University McMurtry Art and Art History Building, Creative Arts Center at Brown University, the renovation and expansion of the Juilliard School and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and The Blur Building for the 2002 Swiss Expo. His work with DS+R has been exhibited worldwide at museums and institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum, the Netherlands Architecture Institute, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and the Centre Pompidou. In 2012, he was honored as a Rice University Distinguished Alumnus, making him one of the youngest alumni to ever receive this prestigious award. Recently he was made a National Academy Academician.
Jonathan J. Marvel, FAIA, is founding principal at Marvel Architects, with offices in New York City and San Juan, PR. For more 30 years, he has led the design and planning of public spaces, educational institutions, single and multi-family housing, libraries, museums and large-scale mixed-use developments. Marvel teaches, writes, lectures, and leads discussion on urban design and architecture in both academic and civic contexts. He sits on several boards, teaches at the new Urban Placemaking and Management MA program at Pratt Institute, and recently founded Citizen Designer, a community-based think tank.
Ronnette Riley, FAIA, LEED AP, is a vibrant designer and energetic member of the New York architecture community. As principal of her namesake firm, Riley is passionate about her field and deeply committed to her clients. The work of the 30-person firm, which opened in 1987, has been featured in numerous publications and won over 60 design awards. The firm has completed a wide range of institutional, corporate, hospitality, retail, and residential projects, including the first Apple flagship store in SoHo, the Tracy Reese boutique, the Westin Ottawa Hotel, and interiors for the Bronx Hall of Justice, and over 600 residential homes, apartments, and townhouses. Current Projects include 200,000-square-feet of corporate offices, several stores for Farrow & Ball, a new house in Bridgehampton, a historic Upper East Side townhouse, and 56 mid-rise residential buildings damaged by Hurricane Sandy in the Far Rockaways.
Riley received degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. She is an Adjunct Professor at the School for Visual Arts and was Chair of the National American Institute of Architects Committee on Design.
Paula Scher has been described as the “master conjurer of the instantly familiar,” and has been at the forefront of design for over four decades. Iconic, smart, and accessible, her images have entered into the American vernacular. A principal in Pentagram’s New York office since 1991, she has developed identity and branding systems, promotional materials, environmental graphics, packaging and publication designs for a wide range of clients, that includes, among others, Bloomberg, Microsoft, the Museum of Modern Art, Citibank, Tiffany & Co, the High Line, and the Public Theater.
Dan Wood, FAIA, LEED AP, is a Principal at WORKac, which he co-founded with Amale Andraos. He leads international projects across the United States as well as in Asia, Africa, and Europe. WORKac has achieved international recognition for projects that re-invent the relationship between urban and natural environments. Wood is a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania and held the 2013-14 Louis I. Kahn Chair at the Yale School of Architecture and has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Cooper Union, Columbia, Ohio State, and UC Berkeley, where he was the Friedman Distinguished Chair. Wood’s teaching has focused on how architecture, nature, and cities can fuse into new forms and urban experiences. Wood is originally from Rhode Island and lived in Paris and the Netherlands before moving to New York in 2002. He is a licensed architect in the State of New York.
